Boost Brain Power - Week 8 of Dr. Mao's 8-Week Longevity Program

Cognitive function decline is often attributed to aging. However, my research and interviews with centenarians have shown otherwise. Many centenarians I've studied remained vibrant and sharp even at 100 years or older, with excellent cognition and the ability to recall long and immediate past events.

With a healthy lifestyle, stress management, exercise, quality sleep, as well as herbs and supplements, we can help stave off brain decline, protect our memory, and enhance our brain function. Here are several tips:

Acupuncture

Studies have found that acupuncture may help improve cognitive function, memory, and attention in people with mild cognitive impairment or dementia. Acupuncture may work by improving blood flow to the brain, reducing inflammation, and modulating the activity of neurotransmitters in the brain. For at-home support, Acupressure Healing can be an effective way to keep our energy pathways open.

Protect Your Brain with a Healthy Diet

Eating a diet rich in fruits, nuts, seeds, vegetables, seaweed, fish, and healthy fats can help improve brain function. Studies show that blueberry, in particular, contains anthocyanins that protect brain cells from oxidative damage. Broccoli is high in vitamin K and choline, which can help improve cognitive function and memory. And walnut, with its abundant omega fatty acids and vitamin E, supports healthy brain function. I recommend supplementing with Omega Support and antioxidant formulas like Cell Protect MAX.

Herbs and Supplements

Several herbs and supplements that have been shown to support healthy brain function are listed as follows:

Resveratrol is a polyphenol found in grapes and red wine that has been studied for its potential benefits in improving brain function. Research has found that resveratrol supplementation may improve memory performance in older adults. Resveratrol is also considered a longevity nutrient as it lengthens telomeres, protecting the ends of DNA chromosomes from damage.

DMAE is a compound found in small amounts in the brain. Several studies have suggested that DMAE (Dimethylaminoethanol) may have neuroprotective effects and may help prevent or slow the progression of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's. It is found in the Brain Boost Neuro PLUS supplement.

B vitamins, including vitamin B12 and folate, play a role in neurotransmitter metabolism and may benefit brain function. Studies found that combining vitamin B12, folate, B3, and vitamin B6 may improve cognitive function in older adults with mild cognitive impairment. Super B contains the entire spectrum of the B vitamin family.

Carnitine is an amino acid that plays a role in fat metabolism and energy production. Studies show that carnitine supplementation may specifically improve cognitive function, including attention, memory, and executive function.
