Treating Cellulite in Traditional Chinese Medicine

Many adults have lumpy cellulite on their thighs, buttocks, flanks, abdomen or arms that is caused by changes in fat cells and connective tissue the lie under the surface of the skin. For many years cellulite was considered an aesthetic issue but it is now believed that there is also a positive correlation between cellulite and a predisposition to systemic disease involving blood flow and metabolic changes in subcutaneous tissue.
With decreased blood flow, connective tissue is weakened and the familiar dimpling of cellulite results. The exact cause of cellulite is unknown, but the enlargement of fat cells from weight gain or sluggish metabolism is often accompanied by inflammation, water retention, and swelling. In addition, an unbalanced diet or an unhealthy lifestyle can exacerbate the problem. Both men and women are affected, but estrogen encourages the storage of fat in women’s hips, thighs, and buttocks and makes fat cells sticky that further contributes to the dimpled effect.
At Tao of Wellness, we treat cellulite as an internal systemic condition that creates lymphatic congestion and the accumulation of fat. Acupuncture can help improve circulation, balance hormones, block inflammation, and drain lymphatic congestion. Tuina body massage along with cupping breaks down stagnant fat, draws toxins to the surface, brings fresh blood to the area, and improves the appearance of the skin. Our Far-infrared sauna stimulates lymphatic circulation and reduces sensitivity to cupping, so if you are affected by cellulite, we invite you to ask your practitioner about our effective cellulite reduction program.
