Integrative Cancer Care
For anyone, the diagnosis of cancer is both shocking and frightening news. The disease has become so rampant that we all seem to know someone or a family member that has been touched by it. For the patient, after recovering from the initial shock of discovering cancer, he or she has to choose from the various oncology therapies that may include a combination of surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, hormonal or biologic therapies. After deciding with one’s oncologist the best treatment protocol, there are the side effects from the anti-cancer therapies to deal with.
The success of one’s therapy often hinges on how well the patient copes with the side effects, which can include fatigue, hair loss, low appetite, nausea, anemia, low white blood cells, weight loss, poor concentration and memory, neuropathy, diarrhea, mouth sores, dry mouth, insomnia, lower back pain and depression. If the side effects are unbearable, a patient may be forced to interrupt or change the treatment protocol, thereby lessening the desired efficacy.
At Tao of Wellness, we have been taking care of patients undergoing oncology treatments for 25 years. Our licensed practitioners specialize in minimizing side effects and improving quality of life in patients receiving anti-cancer therapies. We employ a wide range of complementary therapies within Chinese medicine that include acupuncture, herbal medicine, dietary therapy, meditation/ visualization and Chi Gong practice. These complementary therapies are used to support the specific needs of each individual patient and his or her immune system to more effectively fight against cancer. Furthermore, Chinese medicine views each patient as a whole person, integrating the mind, body and spirit in all of its treatments.
The success of our Integrative Cancer Care Program has resulted in referrals from many oncologists around the city, including UCLA, Norris, UCI, Cedar-Sinai and the City of Hope.
We know that having cancer is very hard, but we encourage patients to view cancer as an opportunity that provides the impetus for making changes in one’s life that would not usually happen otherwise—changes which lead to increased meaning, happiness and fulfillment in people’s lives. Our role as healer is to help guide our patients to the ultimate healing of their lives.Suggest to your friend and/or family member undergoing oncology treatments to consider what Chinese medicine can do for them during the crucial treatment period. Or have them call Tao of Wellness and speak to any one of our licensed practitioners to discuss their case. We are here and ready to help.
