Fertility Enhancement

Have you been trying without success to get pregnant? Have you been unable to carry a pregnancy to term? Would you like to get pregnant naturally? Would you like to optimize your chances of getting pregnant using assisted reproductive technologies (ART)? If you answered ‘yes’ to any of the above questions, you will want to consider acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) at the Tao of Wellness.

The enhancement of fertility has been at the heart of Traditional Chinese Medicine for the past 5,000 years, and the Ni family medical tradition has embraced this branch of the medicine for several centuries. Click here to learn more about our group of doctors and our clinic’s history and mission.

Tao of Wellness has become an established leader in the field of Oriental Reproductive Medicine and is dedicated to providing the highest quality health care. Over the years our team of doctors has created a comprehensive Fertility Enhancement Program to prepare a woman’s mind, body, and spirit for pregnancy. The program includes the following:

Over a thousand women and couples have achieved their dreams of successful pregnancy using this program at the Tao of Wellness

It was a wonderful pregnancy. I think it shocked Dr. Dao, how powerful he was. Before I had my daughter, I felt such a void. Something was missing, and I couldn’t stop fighting to get it. I was relentless because in my heart, I knew I was going to get it. And then she came to me, just as I knew she would.

The Fertility Enhancement Program is directed by Dr. Daoshing Ni (Dr. Dao). A lecturer and one of the foremost authorities in Oriental medicine and infertility, he co-founded Yo San University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Los Angeles where he is a professor. Dr. Dao’s published book, The Tao of Fertility: A Healing Chinese Medicine Program to Prepare Body, Mind, and Spirit for New Life, has received critical acclaim in the medical community, including enthusiastic endorsements from wellknown author/physicians Deepak Chopra, Judith Orloff, and Richard Marrs. Dr. Dao is a founding member and advisor on the American Board of Oriental Reproductive Medicine (ABORM), as well as a member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM).

I followed Dr. Dao’s advice right from the start. But I was lucky—my obstetrician knew Dr. Dao and was open to my working with him. It’s important for women to understand that not every obstetrician is as open to their patients being treated by a doctor of Chinese medicine. That openness is a key. It encourages you to follow Dr. Dao’s treatments more [regularly]. Within two months, I got pregnant.

Dr. Dao and his team of associates work in close collaboration with a number of fertility clinics in Southern California. The growing interest in the use of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) to enhance fertility stems largely from a number of research studies that demonstrate the combination of Western and Eastern medicine results in a 60% increase in pregnancy and live birth. The combined approach has also been shown to significantly reduce complications resulting in miscarriage.

How does acupuncture improve fertility?

  • Acupuncture causes a reduction of stress hormones and a release of endorphins that produce a profound state of relaxation. Research has shown that people with elevated stress levels have significantly lower pregnancy rates.
  • Regular acupuncture treatments result in the correction of the body’s neuro-endocrinological activity resulting in hormonal regulation and balance.
  • The insertion of needles in specific acupoints in the body increases ovarian and uterine blood flow. This increased flow stimulates ovulation and enhances growth of the uterine lining.
  • Acupuncture supports implantation and growth of the embryo during the very crucial initial stages of fetal development.

The treatments must have made me ovulate really well. I don’t even know when my husband and I tried that month—I was just waiting to get my period. I wasn’t using any fertility medication. After just one month of treatments, I got pregnant.

How does herbal therapy improve fertility?
Herbs work to nourish and strengthen the body. Regular intake of specific, customized herbal formulas increases the assimilation of critical nutrients for a healthy pregnancy. The quality of ovarian eggs and the thickness of the uterine lining are totally dependent on this nutrition. Certain herbs also reduce inflammation in the body. When present in the reproductive area, inflammation creates an obstacle to fertility. Lastly, certain select herbs very effectively regulate and balance hormone levels.

Combining acupuncture with herbal medicine can improve a woman’s health and vitality, and prepare her body for conception and pregnancy. For women who come to us while undergoing assisted reproductive technologies procedures (ART) such as in vitro fertilization (IVF), acupuncture and herbs have been used to increase the chances of a successful pregnancy by stimulating ovulation, regulating hormones and regulating the menstrual cycle. By helping to return the body to a state of optimum balance, Tao of Wellness doctors provide an invaluable support for women who use ART. In addition, research has shown that women who attempt pregnancy at a later stage in their lives have a higher success rate when they are treated with acupuncture and herbs.

TCM benefits for men
Sperm quality in male populations around the world is declining at an alarming rate. Traditional CHinese Medicine is commonly used to increase and improve the quality, motility, and quantity of sperm. Since male infertility accounts for over 40% of infertility issues in a couple, we encourage male partners to partake in regular treatments to address potential sperm issues. Strengthening the male partner increases the odds of pregnancy.

I took a pregnancy test—and it came pack positive! Dao told me I needed a blood test to make sure. That was positive, too. It ws the shock of both our lives. We decided for the first three months to keep the treatment going to keep the embryo implanted. As far as I was concerned, whatever he said was gold at that point.
